Cozy Fall Plates That Keep Your Energy Steady

Comfort food that doesn't send you crashing at 3 p.m.

Fall food is the best food. Soups, roasted vegetables, warm spices. The good news is that cozy and balanced can absolutely live on the same plate.

Here's the simple formula I come back to when the weather turns:

• Start with protein. Eggs, chicken, lentils, salmon, Greek yogurt, whatever you like. Protein helps you feel full and can help steady your blood sugar and energy.

• Add something with fiber. Roasted squash, sweet potato, carrots, beets, apples, oats. Fiber is good for digestion and keeps meals feelin

g satisfying.

• Don't skip the healthy fats. Olive oil, avocado, nuts, seeds. They make food taste better and help you stay full longer.

• Finish with something green when you can. Sautéed greens, a simple salad, or roasted Brussels sprouts.

Three easy ways to use it:

1. A warm bowl: roasted sweet potato, black beans, avocado, and a fried egg.

2. A big pot of soup with lentils or white beans, plus a side of greens.

3. Oatmeal with cinnamon, chopped apple, walnuts, and a scoop of protein or a side of eggs.

No food rules here. If your plate has a little protein, some fiber, and something you actually enjoy, you're doing great. Holiday gatherings are around the corner, and this pattern works at the table too.
